CJNG's expansion could intensify violence in Mexico in 2025
CJNG continues to grow, and it could already intensify violence following the fracture of the Sinaloa Cartel, according to a report
The Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) continues to expand its territory in Mexico. This could increase violence next year, according to a report by ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project), which monitors conflicts worldwide.
The CJNG, led by Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, has consolidated its presence in key regions of the country. This has sparked clashes with other criminal groups, such as the Cártel de Sinaloa, which is facing an internal crisis following the capture of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.

The fragmentation of the Cártel de Sinaloa has caused a wave of violence in Sinaloa, Sonora, and Baja California. The factions are fighting for control of the territory and drug routes, which has increased homicides and violent crimes.
Mexican authorities face the challenge of containing the CJNG and pacifying the affected areas. Without an effective strategy, the cartel continues to strengthen.
The international community has expressed concern about the impact of drug trafficking on regional security. Governments and organizations have urged President Claudia Sheinbaum to strengthen security policies and improve international cooperation.

If firm action is not taken, violence could increase in the remainder of 2025, affecting the country's stability. The expansion of the CJNG and the fragmentation of other criminal groups represent a serious challenge for Mexico.
