Óscar Andrade implicated
Those criminally convicted, especially former communist unionist Bruno Bertolio, accused high-ranking figures from Sunca and PCU, such as Laura Alberti (Finance Secretary), Óscar Andrade (senator and former SUNCA leader), and Daniel Diverio (deputy and former secretary general), of being fully aware of the irregular maneuvers and of illegally benefiting from the funds. Bertolio stated that money stolen from the workers was used to clandestinely finance PCU's political campaigns and the referendum on social security promoted by PIT-CNT and by PCU. Andrade can't feign ignorance. For many years, he was the foremost unionist in Sunca, and he has always been active in politics within the Communist Party. It is worth recalling that the president of PIT-CNT is Marcelo Abdala, a unionist who also belongs to PCU. The same political party as the current Minister of Labor, Juan Castillo.Communist Party corruption under investigation
At the request of the Economic Crimes Prosecutor's Office, the National Secretariat for the Fight against Money Laundering (Senaclaft) summoned PCU leaders and requested financial statements as part of the case investigating the mega embezzlement of money from the Social Housing Fund for Construction Workers (Fosvoc), made up of Sunca and the construction business chambers, according to El Observador.
The Prosecutor's Office is awaiting the results of a report being prepared by Senaclaft, for which it requested the financial statements from PCU. The direct involvement of PCU in the case emerged during the hearing in which three former communist unionists (Fabián Rivero, Santiago Bernaola, and Bruno Bertolio) were convicted. They asserted that they had not acted alone, but under direct orders from senior PCU leaders, including Sunca's Finance Secretary, Laura Alberti, Senator Óscar Andrade, and Deputy Daniel Diverio.
Seriousness of the matter
This entire mega embezzlement involves massive corruption. PCU used a fund intended for construction workers to illegally plunder it and thus finance its 2024 and 2025 electoral campaigns. In addition, PCU unionists used money belonging to the workers to finance the referendum campaign against social security, which took place alongside last year's October elections.
