La Diaria collected $1,766,000 in public funds in less than two months

The far-left rag receives millions of pesos per month in public money thanks to the Broad Front government

The radical far-left rag and unofficial mouthpiece of the Broad Front is largely maintained with taxpayers' money.

Various state agencies are subscribed to La Diaria. Although they practice pseudo-journalism of extremely low quality, and although they are far from informing and instead devote themselves to defaming and engaging in ideological political propaganda, many state agencies pay a subscription to the leftist pamphlet.

La Diaria has always been a rag that has stayed afloat to a great extent with the money of all Uruguayans, through state agencies that subscribe to the pamphlet.

Since Yamandú Orsi took office on March 1, 2025, subscriptions to La Diaria through state agencies have multiplied and the rag has received more public money.

They are financed with everyone's money

In January and so far in February 2026, La Diaria has received from the State $1,766,000, more than any other publication. The data were released by Twitter user @PhDenLogica.

The Broad Front government is keeping this pamphlet afloat with taxpayers' money. The practice is simple, a ministry or other agencies such as Brou, Ute, Ancap, Ose, or the National Port Administration take out an annual subscription to La Diaria by paying an annual fee.

The rag sends its print publication daily, or sometimes not even that; the subscription consists of free access to the news through the website.

This way, with taxes from taxpayers, the leftist pamphlet receives millions of pesos every month.

Natalia Uval, hired by Cosse

The director of La Diaria, Natalia Uval, was hired during Carolina Cosse's term at the head of the Montevideo city government (2020-2025) for the TV Ciudad program "La letra chica." On that channel, which belongs to the capital's city government, Uval collected for years a fabulous mega salary, and of course she always operated in favor of the Broad Front and PIT-CNT.

A shady company

For La Diaria to compete on equal terms with other publications such as Búsqueda or El País, it should be a commercial company, such as a limited liability company or a corporation.

However, this far-left pamphlet is a cooperative, which means they pay almost no taxes.

This way they engage in unfair competition against their competitors. They are a company that invoices and collects millions of pesos per month, but they pay almost no taxes because they operate under the form of a cooperative.

It is a dirty and unfair practice that they have always engaged in.

While La Diaria has a falsely supportive and altruistic editorial line, they collect a great deal of public money every month.

They pocket money from Uruguayan taxpayers while they demand that the government collect more taxes. Citizens pay taxes, and La Diaria collects.

On one hand they pocket public money and engage in propaganda in favor of the most radical sectors of the government that want to increase the tax burden. On the other hand they collect millions of pesos from taxpayers every month.

Absolute and total hypocrisy.
