Union leaders ruin the dairy sector

Dairy industry unions are causing company closures and generating layoffs in the sector

The branch union of the dairy industry, FTIL (Federation of Dairy Industry Workers), is leading the sector to ruin.

This union federation, which is part of PIT-CNT, is carrying out wildcat strikes and making demands on companies, which is causing them to shut down.

The Conaprole case, a calvary

Conaprole confirmed the closure of its plant number 14 in Rivera, scheduled for October 31, 2025.

This closure affects about 40 workers, both direct and indirect, and has caused tensions with the union (AOEC), which has implemented measures such as working to rule, causing losses of milk and difficulties in collection.

The company argues that the decision is based on economic studies, and a decline in the sale of milk in sachets.

Conaprole proposes to relocate the 22 permanent employees to other plants, and offers extended unemployment insurance during the transition.

However, the union has blocked negotiations.

Another case, Grupo Gloria

In May 2024, the Peruvian group Gloria announced the closure of its cheese plant in Nueva Helvecia, affecting 43 employees and producers who delivered 60,000 liters of milk daily.

The decision was criticized for its abrupt nature, without prior notice, which caused rejection from dairy associations.

Union responsibility was evident, as excessive demands unnecessarily increased the company's costs.

Claldy, closure due to the union's fault

Last July, the dairy company Claldy announced a restructuring that includes 50 layoffs from a workforce of 200 workers, citing profitability problems, fragile assets, and lack of access to credit.

Once again, it was the union that helped push the company into the red, with out-of-place demands and wildcat strikes.

Union savagery

Dairy sector unions are no exception to the rest of Uruguayan union organizations; they practice violence through pressure and bullying against the business sector.

They carry out wildcat strikes with excessive demands, which of course harm consumers who have nothing to do with the matter.

FTIL is basically led by the Communist Party, and radical sectors of the Socialist Party and the MPP, who are radicalized and are leading the sector to ruin.

They are harming families and companies with absurd radicalism and violent sabotage.

The parasitic union bureaucracy

PIT-CNT is led by the radical far left. They are the same ones who applaud the narco-dictatorships of Cuba and Venezuela, who have union bureaucrats who spend years collecting a salary without working because they are on union leave, and who have been involved in scandalous cases of corruption.

One only needs to recall Sunca, where a mega fraud of 1,200,000 dollars occurred, and in FUS (private health), where its main union bureaucrat, Jorge "Fogata" Bermúdez, is accused of serious irregularities.
