Sales of new cars skyrocketed, achieving the best start to the year since 2018.
With an 82.6% increase, the automotive sector praised President Javier Milei's measures
The Argentine economy continues to show strong signs of recovery under the leadership of President Javier Milei. In news celebrated by the productive sector, the sale of new cars skyrocketed in March, achieving a year-on-year growth of 82.6% and closing the best first quarter in seven years.
According to data from the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA), in the first three months of the year, 161,229 vehicles were registered, a 90.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The president of ACARA, Sebastián Beato, explained the reasons behind this phenomenon: "A macro that is becoming more organized and the possibility of financing the purchase, in some cases with credit from the terminals themselves at zero interest, made people lean toward acquiring a vehicle. That's why we're closing the best first quarter since 2018".
The reduction of the top-level goods tax, promoted by the Milei government, has been key to stimulating demand, especially in the mid-size car segment.

The resurgence of the automotive sector marks a turning point for an industry that suffered a 7.9% decline in 2024, when 414,041 units were sold.
With the new economic direction, growth is projected for 2025 between 10% and 15%, with the expectation of reaching 500,000 units sold by the end of the year, a figure not seen since the industry's most prosperous times in 2013 and 2017.
Regarding market composition, 58% of the vehicles registered in March were manufactured in the country, while 42% were imported from Brazil. This latter figure represents a 12 percentage point increase compared to the same month in 2024, when domestic cars accounted for 62% of the market.
The integration with the Brazilian market and the commercial openness favored by the Milei administration are generating a greater supply and competition, benefiting consumers with better prices and options.

In the participation ranking, Volkswagen consolidated as the most chosen brand with 7,944 registered units and a 17.8% market share, closely followed by Toyota with 7,912 units (17.7%) and Fiat with 5,973 units (13.4%). The best-selling list:

Fiat Cronos: 2,598 units
Toyota Yaris: 2,465 units

With a strong growth trend, the automotive industry projects a positive first half."This trend will join us in the coming months, allowing us to think about completing a good first half", concluded Beato. The reduction of inflation and exchange rate stability are creating a new business climate in Argentina, reaffirming that the Government's economic model is delivering concrete results.
