2026 World Cup continues to set milestones before it begins. With less than five months to go before kickoff, FIFA confirmed that it received more than 500 million ticket requests during the first sales phase by random draw, an unprecedented figure in the history of soccer.
The registration period was open for 33 days, between December 11, 2025 and January 13, 2026, and recorded an average of 15 million requests per day, all linked to different credit cards. According to the organization, it was a global call, with requests coming from all the countries and territories that make up FIFA's 211 member associations.
In addition to the three host countries, the largest volume of requests was concentrated in Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia, reflecting the massive interest in a World Cup that will be the largest in history.

Regarding the most in-demand matches, the game between Colombia and Portugal, a match for the third round of Group K scheduled for June 27 in Miami, topped the list at this stage. Among the five most requested matches were:
Mexico - South Korea | Second round of Group A | June 18 | Guadalajara
Final | July 19 | New York
Mexico - South Africa | First round of Group A (opening match of the World Cup) | June 11 | Mexico City
A round of 32 match | July 2 | Toronto
The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, praised the impact of the call and highlighted its global reach: "500 million ticket requests in just over a month exceed demand; it's a genuine statement of intent on a global scale", he stated, both in an official statement and in a video released on his social media accounts.

After the registration period closes, FIFA will review all requests to ensure that they comply with current regulations. If demand exceeds the number of tickets available, allocation will be carried out through a random draw. Those who are not successful will have another chance in a last-minute sales phase, which will open close to the start of the tournament and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Finally, the organization clarified that obtaining a ticket doesn't guarantee entry to the host countries. In that regard, it recommended starting immigration procedures in advance and indicated that, for United States, fans will soon be able to access a system of priority appointments called FIFA PASS.
