As part of the detention control hearing that culminated in six months of preventive detention for both defendants, Ángel's mother and her partner gave their version of the events. In a case that accumulates increasingly compromising elements, both pleaded not guilty and denied having exercised

violence against the child.

Maicol González, the child's stepfather, took the floor and maintained that the reported ill-treatment never existed. According to him, the versions of physical aggression are “barbarities” and he assured that the child was corrected “like any child”, taking away objects or privileges, in an attempt to diminish the seriousness of

the accusations.

Along the same lines, the defense strategy was also presented during the hearing, which sought to relatize the injuries detected in the minor's body. In this context, the prosecutor in the case, Facundo Oribones, revealed that the defendants' defender went so far as to state that the more than 20 blows to the head were compatible with simple “coscorrones”, a statement that generated a strong impact

due to the contrast with the forensic results.

For his part, González insisted that both he and the boy's mother do not know what happened and stated that they are also seeking to clarify the fact. However, his statements failed to allay suspicions, especially in the face of evidence accumulated in the

investigation.

One of the most delicate points is that, according to the elements incorporated in the file, the minor had repeated traumatic injuries that rule out any accidental explanation l. Added to this are testimonies that speak of previous episodes of violence and of the boy's cries on the day he suffered the decompensation that led to his death.

The boy's mother, Mariela Altamirano, had also given her version in the hours after the incident. At that time, he tried to deflect the accusations by targeting Ángel's father and his environment, whom he described as “alcoholics and drug addicts”. In addition, he argued that the episode occurred when they were trying to assist the child after a

domestic incident.

According to this story, the boy suddenly decompensated, after which the couple tried to revive him while seeking medical assistance. However, the preliminary results of the autopsy contradict this reconstruction and point to a pattern of sustained violence.
