After the Government of Javier Milei, thanks to its judicial strategy, succeeded in getting the United States Justice to annul the million-dollar conviction against Argentina in the trial because of the expropriation of YPF in 2012, since Kirchnerism they went out to try to claim the

achievement.

The decision of the New York Second Circuit Court of Appeals, which overturned the conviction of more than $18 billion, represented a great achievement for the Government, which was able to reverse a critical inherited scenario.

The current libertarian administration took the case in a difficult instance, following the ruling handed down by Judge Loretta Preska in 2023, who had condemned the country to pay a figure that, with interest, reached close to USD 18 billion.

In this context, the legal strategy promoted over the past few months by the Government of Milei was decisive in obtaining a result that had very low chances of success.

However, different leaders of Kirchnerism, who were even responsible for this trial, came out to claim the achievement of

the current Government.

Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof stated on his social networks: “The U.S. Justice ruled in favor of YPF and reveals years of lies,” and maintained that “it was a story driven by vultures to question a sovereign decision.”

In his message, the failed former Minister of Economy also questioned the current Government and pointed out that “Milei disguises herself with the YPF mamluk, but he never defended her.”

For her part, the corrupt former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner spoke about the lawyers who intervened in the judicial process and said: “My congratulations for having supported Argentina's legal arguments.”

In addition, despite not even having been able to make positive progress in the trial during the Kirchner governments, he said that “it is more than clear that the expropriation for public utility purposes of YPF was done in accordance with

the law.”

Along the same lines, the former striking president Alberto Fernández also spoke out with criticism of the current administration and stated: “I regret that the unbalanced one who governs us celebrates a result that he never sought.”

However, the reality is that it was the Government of Milei that managed to reverse a situation that for more than a decade had no favorable resolutions for Argentina.

The House ruling not only rescinded the conviction, but it also meant that the country should not face a multi-million dollar payment that posed a strong risk to public finances.
