The Government of Javier Milei reported that intentional homicides in the city of Rosario fell sharply during the beginning of 2026.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Security, between January and February of this year, murders fell by 57% compared to the same period in 2025, a historic result within the so-called Flag Plan.
The official statement released by the ministry said: “HISTORICAL FLAG PLAN: WE LOWER HOMICIDES IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS OF THE YEAR,” and specified that the year-on-year comparison shows a reduction of 57% in intentional homicides that occurred in Rosario between January and February of 2026 compared to the same period
last year.
These results are part of the security policies implemented by the administration of President Javier Milei and the deployment of specific measures in Rosario, where operations and control strategies were reinforced to deal with crime.
The drop in homicides in 2025
The announcement is in addition to official data released at the beginning of the year on the evolution of security indicators at the national level. In January, the Government of Milei reported that during 2025 there was a new drop in the country's homicide rate, which stood at 3.7 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, while simple and aggravated robberies decreased by
20.8% compared to 2024. President Javier Milei. The information was presented during a press conference led by the Minister of National Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, together with the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni.
On that occasion, the official explained that these were provisional statistics pending the final report of the National Criminal Information System (SNIC),
scheduled for March.
Monteoliva stressed that the indicators are among the lowest in recent years and recalled the evolution of the homicide rate since the beginning of the current administration. As detailed, in December 2023, the rate was 4.4 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure that fell during 2024 and continued
to fall in 2025.
During her presentation, the minister emphasized the impact of this trend. “The year 2025 closed with a homicide rate of 3.7% per 100,000 inhabitants. If we compare the number of lives from 2023 to date, it's 392 lives, homicides that didn't happen. Data is essential because every life counts,” he said.
The Ministry of Security also noted that the registered decline implies a year-on-year decline of 5.6% and a cumulative reduction of 17% over the two-year period.
In absolute terms, they indicated that the difference represents more than 300 fewer deaths, since in 2023 there had been 2047 homicides, while in 2025 the figure fell to 1705.
According to the official analysis, this level consolidated for the second consecutive year the lowest value since the beginning of the century, a historic figure in the evolution of crime rates in the country.
