The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the appointment of Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin as the new secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
As reported by the president in a statement published in Truth Social, the legislator will take office as of March 31, 2026.
The designation is part of a reorganization in the security area of the US government. The current DHS Secretary, Kristi Noem, will leave her position to assume a new role as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas, a regional security initiative
.
“I am pleased to announce that the highly respected U.S. senator from the great state of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will assume the position of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) effective March 31, 2026,” Trump
said in his message.In the same statement, the president thanked Noem for his management at the head of the agency responsible for the country's internal security. “The current secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us effectively and has obtained numerous and spectacular results (especially on the border!) , will become Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere that we will announce on Saturday in Doral, Florida. I thank Kristi for her service on 'Homeland',” he said.
