The recent meeting between María Corina Machado and Marco Rubio once again places the Venezuelan regime at the center of the international political agenda, at a key moment for the future of the South American country. The meeting, held in the United States, is part of a series of contacts that the Venezuelan leader has been promoting with international leaders with the objective of strengthening external support for the democratic cause
.Machado, who has managed to consolidate himself as one of the main voices of the opposition, has maintained intense diplomatic activity in recent months.
Its strategy aims to generate consensus outside Venezuela around the need to guarantee transparent electoral conditions, respect for individual freedoms and institutional reconstruction. In this context, the dialogue with Rubio acquires special relevance, given the secretary's weight in U.S. foreign policy, particularly on issues related to
Latin America.
During the meeting, different axes were addressed, including the internal Venezuelan political situation, the regional impact of the migratory crisis and the importance of maintaining mechanisms of international pressure that favor democratic opening.
