Franco Colapinto scored an outstanding performance at the Miami Grand Prix and achieved the best result of his career in the Formula 1. The Argentine driver crossed the finish line in eighth place, but a 20-second penalty against Charles Leclerc allowed him to advance to seventh place and score six points for Alpine.
The performance of the Pilarense was one of the highlights of the weekend in the United States, in a context in which his team did not have the best performance of Pierre Gasly. From the first sessions, Colapinto showed strength and even managed to surpass his teammate in qualifying, something unusual since his arrival at the team
.In this context, the specialized international press soon highlighted his performance during the main race at the Miami International Autodrome. “Colapinto has received a lot of criticism since replacing Jack Doohan at Alpine.
But, armed with Alpine's aerodynamic improvements and a slightly lighter chassis, Colapinto seems to be safer behind the wheel of the A526, which resulted in him surpassing his experienced teammate, Pierre Gasly, in the two qualifying sessions in Miami,” wrote journalist Filip Clereen on the Motorsport portal.
The same analysis highlighted the Argentine's strategy in the race: "He delayed his only pit stop until after the middle of the race, allowing him to climb to fourth position at a given time, and the penalty imposed on Leclerc after the race finally earned him his best result in points to
date, a seventh place.”The Race also included him among the highlights of the weekend: "A result equalled the best in F1 for Colapinto on the track (which later became his best result) followed a solid performance for the rest of the weekend and was probably his safest weekend as an Alpine driver.”
Along the same lines, journalist Jack Benyon's note analyzed: “The incident in the first lap with Lewis Hamilton was a bit messy, but other than that, he was basically eighth throughout the race. He made no significant mistakes that would jeopardize Alpine's new pace
.”Even from the official broadcast there was praise. Sky Sports highlighted its recent evolution: “He seems like a different driver in the last few races than we have seen. After a season, when you come back you have your feet under the desk and you can be a different pilot.” For its part, when it came to rating the drivers for their race performance, Autosport rated the Argentinian with 9 out of 10, the highest score of the weekend, together with the winner Andrea Kimi Antonelli and shooting guard Lando
Norris.
After an intense week, which included a massive exhibition in Buenos Aires and a dream meeting with Messi, the Argentine confirmed once again in Miami his sustained growth in Formula 1 and gave a new demonstration of his potential in the top category of world motorsport
