According to the news network, Helsinki's fear of Russian aggression has led the country to intensify its training in the Arctic

The Border Guard of Finlandhas reinforced recruit training in the Lapland region as part of its preparations for possible Russian aggression, in a context of growing tension along the country's eastern border. CNN reported this, and the network had access to military exercises carried out about 40 kilometers from the border with Russia.
According to the report, Finnish forces are carrying out maneuvers in extreme Arctic conditions in the forests near the Arctic Circle. There, recruits practice movements in snow-covered terrain, patrols in wooded areas, and response procedures in the event of a possible armed incursion.
Finnish authorities have indicated that the reinforcement of training responds to the increase in the Russian military presence in areas near the border. Although no direct incidents have been reported, Helsinki considers it necessary to maintain a high level of alert and preparedness. Finland shares more than 1,300 kilometers (808 miles) of border with Russia, which makes border security a central element of its defense strategy.

The Finnish government has emphasized that these measures seek to anticipate any "surprise" from Moscow, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which significantly changed the security landscape in Europe.
Since then, Finland has increased its military cooperation with Western allies and has strengthened its defensive capabilities, in line with its entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
During the exercises in Lapland, the Border Guard focuses not only on the individual training of recruits, but also on the coordination between units and the ability to operate in a sustained manner in adverse weather conditions.
Extreme cold, poor visibility, and difficult terrain are part of the usual scenario in the north of the country, which is why training in these conditions is considered essential.
Noruega también se encontraría aumentando el entrenamiento militar ante una posible agresión rusa
The concern for security isn't limited to Finland. According to previous reports, Norway has also adopted preventive measures. Norwegian regions that border Russia or that host military installations have been instructed to develop evacuation plans for the civilian population in the event of an attack, which reflects greater concern among the Nordic countries.
In this context, Finland's Defense Minister, Antti Häkkänen, stated on October 16 that Russia would be preparing for a possible "second phase" of aggression directed against NATO. Although he didn't offer specific details, his statements reinforced the perception that the security threat in the region persists.
Finnish authorities have reiterated that the increase in military training has a defensive and preventive nature. However, they acknowledge that the current geopolitical environment forces the country to remain vigilant and prepared for any scenario that could affect its sovereignty and stability.
