A park in Romania will be named after U.S. President Donald Trump after winning a public poll organized by the mayor's office of Sector 4 in Bucharest, a decision that generated great political expectation and intense support on social media and local media.

The announcement was made by Mayor Daniel Băluță, who confirmed that the new extension of Tudor Arghezi Park will officially be named ''Donald Trump Park'' after receiving more than 28,000 votes in an online consultation that gathered over 116,000 participants.

The initiative was originally presented as a tribute to the friendship between Romania and the United States and as a way to highlight the strategic relationship between the two countries. According to the mayor's office, the project also coincides with the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, considered one of the foundational milestones of the United States.

''As decided by the people, the new park will be named Donald Trump,'' Băluță expressed in a message posted on Facebook, where he also indicated that the authorities will proceed in the coming days with the necessary administrative procedures to formalize the decision.

The proposal gained international relevance after U.S. Special Envoy for Global Partnerships, Paolo Zampolli, participated in an event alongside the Romanian mayor to announce the project. During the presentation, Zampolli praised Trump and described the future park as ''a wonderful gift'' for the U.S. president.

The official also recalled that this year the United States is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its independence and highlighted Trump's international leadership, whom many conservative sectors in Europe continue to see as an influential political figure and a symbol of diplomatic firmness.

The new green area is being constructed next to the current Tudor Arghezi Park, inaugurated in September 2023 after a investment of approximately 40 million Lei (Romanian currency). The complex features modern facilities for sports and recreation, including athletic tracks, bike paths, fitness areas, an ecological beach, musical fountains, and multi-level parking.

Users on social media reported possible irregularities in the online voting and pointed out that the option of Moldovan leader Maia Sandu was leading the poll just days before the closing. Some comments even accused the use of bots to alter the final results.

Objections also came from local political sectors. Councilman Paul Ene, a member of the Save Romania Union party, publicly questioned the security of the voting system and described the process as ''a joke.'' He explained that the number of recorded votes increased abruptly in just a few hours during the final stretch of the consultation.

Despite the controversies, the mayor's office reaffirmed the result and assured that the new park will officially bear Trump's name. For its proponents, the tribute represents not only a political recognition of the U.S. president but also a sign of strengthening relations between Bucharest and Washington.
