After shining against River, Flaco López is excited to play in the 2026 World Cup

José Manuel López is experiencing a brilliant present at Palmeiras and is beginning to dream of a greater goal: the Argentina National Team. The player from Corrientes was a key figure in the series against River in the Copa Libertadores, where he scored a brace, and his performance has put him back in the conversation for the 2026 World Cup.

"It's a dream I have, it's still very far away, there's a long way to go. I try to improve myself every day and, if the opportunity arises, I want to be ready for it," he acknowledged in a conversation with ESPN.

The forward also highlighted that he feels the attention of the Albiceleste coaching staff: "Nowadays, the national team coaches watch everything, maybe not so much the Argentine media. I'm very happy here and I think they've watched many Palmeiras matches to call me up. I'm doing my job in the best way possible," he said to Geglobo.

Additionally, the Argentine recalled his first experience with the National Team and hopes to be drafted several more times: "I hope I continue to receive more drafts, it's a dream for me. The first one was spectacular and I enjoyed every moment as I always dreamed. It's a source of pride to represent my country."

With 19 goals so far this year and a profile that combines power with mobility, "Flaco" is emerging as a real option to compete for a spot on the roster. In October, when the Albiceleste play their friendlies in United States against Puerto Rico and Venezuela, he could receive another chance after his draft in the last South American Qualifiers window, where he did not get any playing time.

The 24-year-old forward joined Verdao in mid-2022 from Lanús for 10 million dollars. Since then, he has played 163 matches, in which he has scored 51 goals and provided 13 assists. Meanwhile, during that period he has won two Brasileiraos, one Supercopa do Brasil and two Campeonato Paulista titles.
