The player with the most titles in Lanús's history hung up his boots after his team's elimination in the round of 16 of the Torneo Clausura

Lanús couldn't enjoy its Copa Sudamericana title as much as it would have liked. Granate was not only eliminated by Tigre in the round of 16 of the Torneo Clausura, but also bid farewell to one of its greatest legends: Lautaro Acosta. The forward, a symbol of Granate for almost two decades, confirmed his retirement from professional soccer at age 37 and did so wrapped in a mix of emotion, tears, and gratitude toward the club he described as his "home."

"I'm in shock," Laucha admitted after the match, still shaken by the decision. Later, before a packed stadium celebrating the recent title won in Asunción, he took the microphone again: "I want to thank these warriors, my teammates, who stood by me and helped me when I couldn't go on. They were there to lift me up." He also dedicated words to the fans: "We were incredibly happy, we cried, we laughed, always shoulder to shoulder... I'm leaving as the happiest man in the world."

At 35 years old, Acosta leaves behind a career that combines history, loyalty, and titles. He made his debut in 2006, took part in Lanús's first championship in 2007, and a year later was transferred to Sevilla for 7.5 million euros. His time in Europe, marked by injuries, included stints at Racing de Santander and then a brief return to Argentina to play for Boca. In 2013 he returned to Lanús and, since then, wrote his brightest chapters.

Over 16 years at the club, he played 429 matches and scored 60 goals. He was a key figure in six titles: Apertura 2007, Copa Sudamericana 2013, Primera División 2016, Bicentenario 2016, Supercopa Argentina 2016, and the recent Sudamericana 2025, which made him the most decorated player in Granate's history, surpassing Maximiliano Velázquez.

In addition to his time at the club, Acosta was part of the youth national team that won the U-20 World Cup in 2007 and earned the gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

His last minutes on the field were in the final in Paraguay, where he missed a penalty in the shootout, although that frustration was quickly replaced by the joy of the title. Fate had it that, days later, he would say goodbye in front of his people, wearing a jersey that he wore more times than any other Lanús player.

"I can't believe that was my last match as a professional. Happy and grateful to the people for so much affection. It's my home, everything started when I was 7 or 8 years old here. I only left for five, I've been here for almost 30 years. With joys, with sadness, but always shoulder to shoulder with the club, with the people. A beautiful chapter comes to a close," he concluded, moved, as the stadium gave him a standing ovation.
