The former Kirchnerist president described the quarantine as "fiction" and stated that there was never a lockdown in Argentina

The former Kirchnerist president and abuser Alberto Fernández has once again generated a strong controversy following statements about the dictatorial restrictions imposed by his government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a radio interview, he denied that his administration implemented a quarantine in Argentina and claimed it was a fabrication by the opposition and the media.

"Sometimes I hear some opponents I had and still have, who think very differently from me, and they talk about the longest quarantine in the world, all a fiction, absolutely false", stated the former president.

"First, there was never a quarantine here, there was preventive social isolation, but there was never a quarantine", he maintained. He also argued that from the beginning of the measures, there were "essential activities" that continued to operate.

In that vein, he blamed the opposition for establishing the concept of the longest quarantine in the world and pointed directly at two media outlets. "So, that of the longest quarantine in the world was imposed by the opposition, with the help of Clarín and La Nación", he declared.

During the interview, Fernández also defended the decision to maintain the restrictions and rejected that they represented a political benefit for his administration.

"Can someone be so stupid as to think that telling someone to stay locked up at home gives political gain? I was very clear that it was all political cost. But the decision had to be made", he expressed.

The Lies of Alberto Fernández

However, the former president's claims contrast with the provisions that his own administration established during the pandemic.

On March 19, 2020, Fernández signed Decree 297/2020, which established Mandatory Preventive Social Isolation (ASPO) throughout the national territory.

The regulation stipulated that people had to remain in their usual residences and refrain from going to their workplaces, with exceptions for those engaged in activities considered essential.

Additionally, federal and provincial security forces controlled streets, roads, and access points. Those circulating without the appropriate permits could be arrested, have their vehicles seized, or face criminal charges.

Flights and long-distance transport services were also suspended, while companies, schools, and universities remained closed for months.

The Political Use of Quarantine

Unlike Alberto Fernández's claims, his former Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, had previously confessed that the quarantine was used as a "political banner" that, according to him, benefited the Government at that time.

Following those statements, complaints were filed against the former president for alleged crimes such as abuse of authority and unlawful deprivation of liberty.

However, now the former president has chosen to feign ignorance and deny the dictatorial measures taken during the pandemic under his government.
