Algerian boxer Imane Khelif recently admitted that she has XY chromosomes and that she has been undergoing hormone treatments to reduce the levels of testosterone in her body, especially so she can compete in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Khelif opened up about her biology in the French magazine L'Equipe but she continues to deny being transgender. "We all have different genetics, different hormone levels. I'm not transgender. My difference is natural. This is what I am. I haven't done anything to change the way nature made me. That's why I'm not afraid," said the Algerian.
"I have taken hormone treatments to reduce my testosterone levels for competitions," the boxer continued, who stated that she is committed to undergoing a genetic sex test because she wants to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

"Khelif has now confirmed that she is a man"
Khelif stated that she has no problem taking a genetic test. Meanwhile, the Independent Council on Women's Sports (in English, ICONS), in a statement shared by the outlet Fox News, spoke out about the athlete's situation.
"The Algerian Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif has now confirmed that she is a man. Since men can no longer participate in Olympic women's boxing under the rules of the International Boxing Federation, Khelif reportedly plans to box professionally in Europe, although she inexplicably claims that she will undergo sex testing for the Los Angeles 2028 Games in the hope of competing," the statement says.
Khelif became the center of controversy after she defeated Italian boxer Angela Carini at the Paris Olympic Games in just 46 seconds by using her biological advantage. Before this Olympic event, the Algerian transgender athlete had not passed gender eligibility sponsored by the International Boxing Association, along with Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting.
