Another inhibition for Independiente: El Rojo has a debt with Alexis Canelo

The Avellaneda team faces a new financial problem: it owes 30 thousand dollars for the training rights and the solidarity mechanism of today's Lanús forward

After a poor start in the Copa Sudamericana, where they lost 2-0 to Nacional Potosí as visitors, Independiente is already back in Argentina and focused on their next match against Lanús at La Fortaleza, for the twelfth round of Zone B of the Torneo Apertura, in which they lead with 24 points. However, they received bad news: a new FIFA sanction prevents them from making signings until they settle their debt.

The Avellaneda club was notified 48 hours ago of two payment defaults, which resulted in a new ban. The total amount owed is 30 thousand dollars in total (15 thousand for each concept), both linked to Alexis Canelo: one part corresponds to the training rights and the other to the solidarity mechanism.

Canelo arrived at Independiente in mid-2023, from Toluca in Mexico. During his stay at the club, he played 41 matches and scored seven goals, including a decisive one in the victory in the classic against Racing at the Cilindro, in October 2023. For 2025, the forward was not in Julio Vaccari's plans and left for Lanús as a free agent, with financial compensation for Rojo.

Independiente was able to return to the country

To the defeat suffered in their debut in the Copa Sudamericana against Nacional de Potosí, another setback was added: the team was stranded at Sucre airport due to adverse weather conditions and technical problems with the plane that was supposed to bring them to Buenos Aires.

After the match, the delegation began the return to Sucre in the same 4x4 vehicles that had taken them to the stadium. After traveling the winding 150 kilometers, the team was about to board the return flight in the early morning when they were informed that the dense fog prevented any takeoff. Additionally, the charter plane that was supposed to transport them suffered a technical failure after arriving from Cochabamba, which further delayed the return.

During the wait, the Bolivian airport staff provided assistance, opening a store so they could eat beyond the packed meals they carried. Additionally, they enabled two rooms for the team and technical staff to be more comfortable.

Finally, after changing aircraft, the team was able to travel to Buenos Aires on a flight of approximately three hours, and they must now get to work on the upcoming key matches, Lanús as visitors for the Torneo Apertura and Boston River at home in the Copa Sudamericana.
