In the Ampliación Palmar neighborhood, criminals demanded a bank transfer from her and escaped in her car while she remained tied up
A 70-year-old retiree endured an ordeal this Monday afternoon in her home in the Ampliación Palmar neighborhood, in Córdoba capital. Two criminals entered through a back door, threatened her, and demanded money, jewelry, and that she make a bank transfer. After the attack, they escaped in the victim's car, leaving her tied up and locked in the bathroom of her house.
El hecho ocurrió en el extremo este de la ciudad, a plena luz del día en el barrio Ampliación Palmar.
Impunity in broad daylight
The incident occurred in the far east of the city, in broad daylight and on a public holiday when security is usually more relaxed. The woman managed to free herself and called 911, which allowed police personnel to arrive and assist her. The criminals not only stole valuables but also her personal vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Agile.
According to police sources, the retiree was intimidated for several minutes while they demanded that she transfer more money. It is estimated that the amount transferred was around 300,000 pesos (661 pounds), although it is not ruled out that they may have stolen even more. The level of violence and planning is concerning to local residents, who are demanding greater police presence and answers.
Se estima que la suma transferida fue de alrededor de 300 mil pesos, aunque no se descarta que hayan sustraído aún más.
Residents unprotected and adrift
The assailants tied up the woman and left her locked in the bathroom to facilitate their escape without witnesses. The modus operandi is not new: they enter easily, act quickly, and escape with the loot while the victims are left to their fate. So far, there are no detainees, no suspects, and no trace of the vehicle stolen by the criminals.
Insecurity in Córdoba is not new: it has been escalating for some time, hitting residents harder and harder. The lack of prevention and the advance of crime are generating growing social unrest, especially in outlying neighborhoods. Mayor Passerini's administration is facing criticism for its mismanagement and improvisation in the face of a problem that is already overwhelming.
