Paraguay will establish a joint base with Argentina and Brazil in the Triple Frontier

It will be located on the Paraguayan side and will seek to combat the activities of the terrorist group Hezbollah in the region

Paraguay's Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera, confirmed a strategic agreement with the United States to establish a joint base on the Paraguayan side of the Tri-Border Area together with Argentina and Brazil. The initiative's main objective is to counter the activities of the Hezbollah terrorist group and other organizations linked to the Iranian regime.

According to details provided by Riera in an exclusive interview with CNN, Paraguay will also have an anti-terrorism center supported by the FBI, aimed at gathering intelligence and coordinating actions against terrorist and criminal networks in the region. “Paraguay will have an anti-terrorism center with the support of the FBI. We've declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization,” the minister stated.

The agreement includes the deployment of 15 specially trained Paraguayan officers by U.S. agents, who will operate from Asunción and coordinate with security forces in the Tri-Border Area.

Additionally, the base will allow for the exchange of strategic information with the United States to strengthen the fight against organized crime, which, according to Riera, keeps close ties with terrorist networks. “Terrorism and organized crime are linked; one finances the other,” he explained.

This decision comes amid growing international concern over the presence of Hezbollah networks in South America. In May, Donald Trump's administration offered a reward of up to 10 million dollars for information leading to the dismantling of the Islamic organization's financial mechanisms in the border region between Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina.

The goal is to weaken the financing of terrorist and criminal activities, ensuring that Hezbollah's financial networks in the region are identified and eliminated.

Minister Riera emphasized that collaboration with the United States represents a strategic step to strengthen regional security and protect the interests of Paraguay and its neighboring countries.
