The Argentine National Team experienced an unforgettable night in Atlanta. After a match that will be marked in football history, Lionel Scaloni's team defeated Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup and secured a spot among the eight best teams in the world.

What seemed like a certain elimination with two goals against near the end turned into a heroic comeback. Once the match was over, the players went into the locker room and unleashed a total party: hugs, jumps, chants, and an overflowing joy that reflected the effort of the entire group.

The images shared by Nicolás Otamendi on his social media and also by the AFA show the world champions in a state of absolute euphoria. It was the reward for a determination that never gave up, even when everything seemed lost.

The comeback that drove Atlanta wild

With the score 2-0 against in the 79th minute, Lionel Messi took the lead once again. The captain sent a precise cross to the heart of the area that Cristian Romero connected for the first goal. Just four minutes later, the Ten took advantage of a pass from Lisandro Martínez and unleashed a powerful shot to equalize the match.

The Argentine fans, who filled the stands in the United States, erupted with emotion. The team continued to push and achieved the winning goal to secure their place in the quarter-finals. At the final whistle, Messi could not hold back his tears, and his teammates lifted him into the air in a gesture that symbolized the unity of the squad.

"I'm happy to have secured the pass; it was tough with the 2-0, and it was very exciting to turn it around again," Messi expressed after the match. The star acknowledged the mix of emotions that overwhelmed him: "It was a bit of happiness, relief, because we wanted to keep going. It couldn't end like today; we don't want to leave."

The emotion of a group that doesn't give up

The Argentine captain highlighted the character of the team. "It's not easy to come back from 2-0, but as I always say, this group never gives up," he insisted. For Messi, what his teammates achieved was "crazy," and he was very happy that people could continue enjoying the National Team.

In the locker room, the atmosphere was pure celebration. The players sang, shouted, and jumped non-stop, releasing all the tension accumulated during the 90 minutes of an intense and dramatic match.
