Poverty in Argentina fell to 34.4% in the first quarter of 2023, according to UTDT.
Around 10 million Argentinians came out of poverty thanks to Javier Milei's government
Under the Government of Javier Milei, poverty in Argentina continues to fall while the economic recovery consolidates and the country leaves behind decades of crisis and stagnation.
According to the most recent report from the Nowcast of Poverty by the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), prepared by Martín González-Rozada, the incidence of urban poverty, measured as the percentage of people in households whose income doesn't cover the total basic basket (CBT), experienced a new notable reduction.
While the October 2024-March 2025 semester projects a poverty rate of 36.1%, the breakdown reveals that in the first quarter of 2025 this figure falls to 34.4%, compared to 37.9% in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This monumental achievement reflects that more than 10 million Argentinians have emerged from poverty in an extraordinarily short period, thanks to the economic policies of Milei's Government.
The Nowcast, based on projections from the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) of INDEC, estimates that the average CBT in Greater Buenos Aires reached $344,649 per equivalent adult, with an annual increase of 88.4%. However, total family income (ITF) grew an impressive 144.0% in the same period, strongly surpassing inflation and evidencing the success of Milei's economic measures to recover purchasing power.
Since taking office, Milei's Government implemented structural reforms, deregulating the economy, reducing public spending, eliminating monetary issuance and fiscal deficit, and destroying inflation, which positively impacted employment and the purchasing power of families.

These policies caused an environment of trust and stability, allowing Argentinians to regain their purchasing power and well-being. The drop in poverty to 34.4% is not just a number, but proof of Milei's commitment to the prosperity of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable.
Although the path to a prosperous Argentina still continues, the UTDT data on poverty in the first quarter of 2025 reflects a great start to the year. Milei's Government's economic model, lifting more than 10 million people out of poverty, lays the foundation for a future of sustained growth.
