The official calendar of the Professional Football League for 2026 was finalized after the latest meeting of the Executive Committee, led by the disgraceful Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia and with the participation of LPF CEO Francisco Duarte, as well as representatives from all clubs. In that meeting, the tournaments and titles that will make up the upcoming season were outlined, consolidating a structure that, in general terms, keeps the current format.
The planning confirmed that in 2026 the format used in 2025 will be maintained, with the Torneo Apertura and Torneo Clausura as the two main pillars of the year. Both will keep their current characteristics, with competitions split into two semesters and an accumulated annual table. The champions of each of those tournaments will once again face off for the Trofeo de Campeones, a single match at a neutral venue that will determine which team is the best of the regular season. This clash, already established as a high-stakes final, will award an additional title.
The agenda also includes the Supercopa Internacional, which will pit the team that finishes at the top of the Annual Table against the winner of the Trofeo de Campeones. That match will once again bring together the two most outstanding teams of the year in a final that adds another trophy to the calendar. It should be noted that in 2026, in theory, the last edition would be played between Rosario Central and the current Trofeo de Campeones champion (Platense or the Clausura champion).
In addition, a new award will be added for the "League Champion," which will reward the team with the most points in the Annual Table. This award was controversially introduced today after the board meeting and was given to Canalla.
