Bahía Blanca: Human Capital advances with aid to UNS after the flood
'We have a very important commitment to the population of Bahía Blanca,' said Professor Alejandro Álvarez
The National University of the South (UNS) is advancing in its recovery plan after the flood that affected various areas of the institution. In a recent meeting with the Ministry of Human Capital, led by Sandra Pettovello, the first guidelines were established to address the damage and ensure the start of the 2025 academic year in an emergency scheme.
"We have a very important commitment to the population of Bahía Blanca", said the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, to La Derecha Diario. "Sandra Pettovello has a big commitment to the situation, our directive is to be permanently supporting the people of Bahía Blanca, even when the news is no longer on the front page of the newspapers," he concluded.
Commitment of the Ministry and work plan
The rector of UNS, Daniel Vega, met with Álvarez to coordinate the steps to follow. According to Vega, the Ministry of Human Capital committed to providing extraordinary resources to repair the damage and restore normalcy in the institution.

"The Undersecretary was aware of everything because he communicated with us after the catastrophe and as the days went by," detailed the rector. "We will soon advance on specific issues, as soon as we institutionally define the steps of the recovery plan for all affected resources", he added.
Impact of the flood on UNS
The start of classes at UNS was severely affected by the rise of the Napostá, which cut the fiber optic link to the Palihue campus, leaving the university without connectivity. The service was able to be restored a few days before the start of the academic year.
Additionally, the Alem building is currently operating with an emergency electrical system, thanks to the loan of a transformer station from EDES, as the complex's substation was submerged.

Next steps
UNS will continue working with the Ministry of Human Capital to outline concrete recovery actions. The goal is to ensure the full functioning of the university as soon as possible and minimize the impact of the catastrophe on the educational community.
