Why have Chinese cars grown so much in Argentina?

In the last two years, the Argentine automotive market has seen a strong entry of Chinese brands, thanks to:

  • The opening of imports
  • The elimination of tariffs for hybrid and electric vehicles from outside the region
  • The arrival of models that are already successful in other countries

Some, like Chery, arrived earlier, but the real boom occurred between 2023 and 2025. Today, there are already 19 automakers of that origin active in the country.

Baic X55: the SUV that took first place

The brand leading sales of Chinese origin is Baic, with 36% of the total. Its flagship model, the X55, is the best-selling SUV in the C segment.

It competes with heavyweights like Volkswagen Taos, Toyota Corolla Cross, Ford Territory, and Jeep Compass, but surpasses them in equipment and price.

Design and comfort of Baic X55

The X55 II arrived in the country in 2023 and was positioned as a coupé SUV, with futuristic lines and premium details.

The Baic X55 is powered by a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine with 185 hp and 305 Nm of torque. It has a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.84 seconds.
