While Boca finalizes details for its debut in the Apertura Tournament against Deportivo Riestra at La Bombonera, medical news has set off alarms in Claudio Úbeda's coaching staff. Rodrigo Battaglia could undergo surgery in the coming hours and, if the surgical procedure is confirmed, he would be sidelined for much of the first half of 2026.
The 34-year-old midfielder hasn't been able to train normally throughout the entire preseason due to a persistent issue with the Achilles tendon of his right leg. The diagnosis with which he ended 2025 and began the new year was an insertional tendinopathy, an injury that causes him constant pain and that even affects his daily life.
Despite the different treatments carried out and the medical consultations conducted by the club, the progress hasn't been as expected after more than a month of work. For that reason, the surgical option has started to gain traction within Xeneize, with the aim of no longer postponing the player's full recovery. While a final decision is awaited, Battaglia continues with physical therapy sessions.
