In a new edition of the Argentine Superclásico,Boca will host River this afternoon at La Bombonera for the Torneo Clausura. This match will be crucial for both teams, as they are playing for key points for qualification to the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
Xeneize comes into this match with a certain consistency in its sports performance compared to the start of the second half of the year. In the five matches managed by Claudio Úbeda, the Ribera team has won three, the most recent against Estudiantes by 1-2, which placed it in the top part of both Zone A and the Annual Table, where, for now, it would be securing a direct ticket to the Libertadores.
Boca quiere asegurar su pase a la Libertadores 2026
Meanwhile, for Millonario, the outlook is much more discouraging. Immersed in one of its worst sports crises in recent years, Gallardo's team has only managed to win two of the last ten matches since that fateful series against Palmeiras in Libertadores (1-0 against Racing in Copa Argentina and 0-2 against Talleres in the Clausura), even adding four consecutive defeats at the Monumental, the last one against Gimnasia by 0-1. These results have complicated its qualification for the next continental tournament and, for now, would leave it as one of the worst ranked teams heading into the play-offs.
River no logra levantar cabeza desde la eliminación en Libertadores
Regarding the record, if both amateur and professional eras are counted, they have faced each other a total of 264 times, in which Boca has won 92, River 88, and 84 ended in a draw. The last match between the two was in April of this year for the Torneo Apertura, a match that Núñez's team won by 2-1 at the Monumental, with goals from Franco Mastantuono and Sebastián Driussi for the home team and Miguel Merentiel for the visitors.
