Former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, age 70, has been diagnosed with skin cancer after undergoing tests at the DF Star hospital in Brasília. Doctors confirmed the presence of squamous cell carcinoma in two skin lesions, which requires ongoing clinical monitoring and regular check-ups to assess the progression of the disease.
Bolsonaro was hospitalized urgently after experiencing vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, and persistent anemia. Although he showed slight improvement after treatment, tests detected kidney abnormalities and chronic anemia, adding to a complex medical history since the stabbing attack he suffered in 2018.
Judicial persecution by PT and Alexandre de Moraes
Bolsonaro's delicate health condition occurs in parallel with what many analysts and opponents describe as an unprecedented judicial persecution in Brazil's democratic history. The former president has been under house arrest since August after being sentenced by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to 27 years in prison for "attempted coup d'état."
The sentence was driven by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, a central figure in the proceedings against Bolsonaro and his allies, who is accused of acting partially and in alignment with the interests of the Workers' Party (PT) and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva himself.
