The world champion was devastating with Boca's forward after the images of the warm-up at La Bombonera and questioned his attitude

Although Edinson Cavani once again logged minutes wearing the Boca jersey in 2026, his return did not go unnoticed. The Uruguayan forward came on in the second half of the goalless draw against Platense at La Bombonera and totaled just over 25 minutes on the field, after having been absent in the first four rounds of the Torneo Apertura. However, beyond his discreet performance, what caused greater controversy was his behavior during the warm-up.

Before the start of the match, the cameras focused on the striker carrying out pre-competition movements alone and, at one point, sitting on a small cooler while bouncing a ball. The scene caught the attention of the fans and sparked debate on sports shows. One of the harshest critics was Óscar Ruggeri, who did not hesitate to target the Uruguayan.

"He doesn't look like a football player. It is impossible for you to do something like that when you are about to play a match", said the world champion on ESPN. He added: "It doesn't matter if you are not going to come on: stand next to the kids and stretch. The cameras focus on him, those images go out to the world. You say: "Is he playing or is he on the coaching staff?"".

Ruggeri went further and questioned the forward's attitude: "These are the ones who have to spread energy within the squad. I am surprised by him, by such an important figure". He even concluded: "He no longer cares about what is happening. He is focused on his own thing. He wants to finish once and for all and that is it".

According to reports, Cavani doesn't usually take part in the traditional "rondo" during the warm-up and prefers to move on his own, something that had already happened in other matches in which he was a substitute. In any case, the image did not go unnoticed in a context in which the striker has not scored for four months and is one of the main targets for the team's poor performance.

The Boca legend who also blasted Cavani

In addition to Ruggeri, another former Xeneize player referred to the Uruguayan's warm-up. Cristian Traverso, now a journalist for TyC Sports, was very critical: "What Cavani did in the warm-up before the match is a lack of respect, mainly toward the coach. It can't happen and he has to realize it with the career he has behind him".

"The first thing for a captain or a leader is to be one and to look like one. Being there supporting, present, in a difficult moment is fine. Now, the cooler scene is an unbelievable image", he added. "A player watching from the outside in the way Cavani did is something that bothers people", the former footballer stressed.

"That image, first hitting the cooler with the ball and then sitting down, is truly disrespectful toward the coach. It is as if he doesn't care or does whatever he wants. Therefore, the conclusion is that they live in a parallel world, because you have to be and to look like it", he concluded.
