The Municipality of La Calera signed an agreement with the company Ola Park to build a water park in the Laguna Azul area. The project involves an investment of approximately $400 million and is currently under development, with plans to open during the 2025/2026 season. According to the announcement, the initiative aims to create direct jobs and revitalize the local economy through tourism.

Mayor Fernando Rambaldi presented the project as a strategic move to transform the city into a regional attraction hub. "We cleaned up the area; it was an open-air dump. We want to restore Laguna Azul as a family tourist destination," he said, highlighting the potential of the venture. The expectation is that the arrival of visitors will also boost the city's hotels, restaurants, and businesses.

Meanwhile, Fernando Moyano, representative of Ola Park, emphasized that the results of similar experiences demonstrate the positive impact on local development. "The previous season showed how a park can boost the town's economy; welcoming families and young people benefits businesses, cabins, and the food industry," he stated. He also assured that there will be areas with public access and that the project will be developed with respect for the environment.

Economic impact and tourism outlook

The initiative seeks not only to expand the recreational offerings of La Calera but also to integrate them with its historical and cultural heritage. The agreement was signed alongside the Pedroni Museum, in a gesture that reinforces the intention to combine the tourism proposal with local identity. This way, visitors will be able to enjoy both the lagoon and the city's museums and historic center.

With a significant private investment, the water park promises to become a driver of job creation and new opportunities for local residents. The influx of tourists during peak seasons will directly increase demand for lodging, food services, and complementary activities. In the long term, sustained growth in visitor numbers is expected to highlight La Calera as a tourist destination.

Rambaldi concluded that this venture represents a key step in the city's positioning strategy. "This is not an isolated project; we want those who come to the lagoon to also discover our historic center and museums," he stated. The project, driven entirely by private capital, marks a significant change in the municipality's tourism and economic profile.
