Toll with privileges: in La Calera, residents will pay less just for living near the station

After years of complaints from residents, the company and authorities agreed on a preferential and favorable rate

Starting Monday, July 7, residents of La Calera will pay $455 per crossing at the Avenida Ejército Argentino toll. The agreement was signed between Camino de las Sierras, the local municipality, and provincial authorities. The new rate represents an additional 30% discount on top of the rate they were already paying with Telepeaje.

Only those who can prove residence in specific neighborhoods of La Calera and Córdoba will be eligible for the benefit. These include Lomas de Los Carolinos, El Bosque, Villa Warcalde, and Alto Hermoso. This highlights unequal treatment for those who travel the same route but do not qualify for the benefit.

The rate difference has been one of the longstanding complaints of the "No al Peaje" organization. The group questions the location of the toll booth and calls for its removal or relocation. Although they welcomed the discount, they insist that it is an "unjust situation" and ask Governor Llaryora to "deliver justice."

A selective relief that reinforces inequalities before the law

The discount only applies to a specific group, creating an arbitrary privilege based on place of residence. Thus, two people using the same service end up paying different rates due to a political criterion. Equality before the law becomes subject to discretionary agreements between authorities and companies.

Until Sunday, all category 2 drivers paid $650 without exception. Now, some users will see their rate reduced while others will continue to bear the full cost. There are no technical or contractual grounds to explain this differentiation in charges.

This type of measure erodes the principle of equity in the use of public infrastructure. Concessioned roads must be maintained under fair and predictable rules for everyone. When selective benefits are granted, what is promoted is not the pursuit of justice but the granting of privileges.
