The Japanese company is preparing a strategic relaunch of three of its historic franchises

Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney will be central pillars in its new growth phase. After several years of prioritizing the development of Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, the company announced that these three brands will receive renewed momentum through new releases, remakes, and multiplatform re-releases.

President and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto explained that the goal is to elevate the company's global performance, strengthen player loyalty, and expand the diversity of its portfolio.

A highly anticipated return after years of creative pause

The decision comes after a prolonged period without new titles from these franchises. Mega Man hasn't released an original game since 2018, while Devil May Cry launched its last main installment in 2019. Meanwhile, Ace Attorney has remained active thanks to compilations, but without original new content.

In the 2025 integrated report, Capcom acknowledges that it needs to diversify its revenue to reach its goal of selling 100 million games per year and increase its operating profit by 10 percent. The figures support the strategy: Mega Man has sold 43 million copies, Devil May Cry 33 million, and Ace Attorney 13 million since its debut in 2001, placing them among the most profitable sagas with untapped potential.

Capcom strengthens its internal structure to accelerate new projects

As part of the expansion plan, the company is increasing its developer workforce, prioritizing the recruitment and training of talent for the past three years. This is complemented by the construction of a new development center in Osaka, scheduled for 2027, which will allow the management of more projects simultaneously and ensure a steady pace of releases.

Although Capcom will maintain its schedule of two to three major titles per year, the Japanese publisher aims to diversify its offerings. For now, the only confirmed project is the Mega Man Star Force Legacy collection for 2026. Completely new games for any of the three sagas have not been announced yet, although next year's agenda includes projects such as Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

What this change means for players and the industry

The renewed focus marks a historic opportunity to revive three beloved franchises, whose fans have been waiting for new adventures for years. The momentum could accelerate the return of Mega Man and Devil May Cry, especially after the media impact of the recent DMC animated series on Netflix.

In the case of Ace Attorney, the community remains active but is calling for new cases, characters, and mechanics to modernize the classic formula.

In market terms, this strategy opens the door to remakes, remasters, and modernized versions, bringing these sagas closer to audiences who have never played them. However, the lack of concrete announcements creates uncertainty regarding execution timelines, an aspect that Capcom will need to clarify to sustain the enthusiasm caused.
