Pichetto ended up being shamed on social media for wanting to ban the Shein website.

The Peronist deputy complained that Argentinians could enjoy imported and inexpensive products

The head of the Encuentro Federal bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Miguel Ángel Pichetto, and the Director of Digital Communication for Javier Milei's government, Juan Pablo Carreira, had a clash on the social network X over the Argentine textile industry, where the Peronist deputy ended up being defeated.

The legislator, known for having supported Kirchnerist projects such as Resolution 125, the nationalization of the AFJP, and the media law, expressed his concern about competition from imported products, strongly supporting the sector that has historically relied on a protectionist model, and defending the high prices for Argentine consumers.

"In light of the impact that the Argentine textile industry is experiencing due to the proliferation of Chinese products entering through importers or platforms like Shein, we have to ask ourselves what the chambers and unions are waiting for to make themselves heard," Pichetto posted on his X account, who doesn't like that people can buy products much cheaper than domestic ones.

Pichetto's message was harshly criticized by thousands of users, angry with the legislator for defending a group of businessmen at the expense of millions of Argentines who are harmed by high prices and loss of well-being.

In this context, Juan Pablo Carreira confronted him harshly, even going so far as to "ratio" him in his reply: "Pichetto is extremely angry because Argentines stopped paying 300 times more for the crappy clothes made by his entrepreneur buddies. Go to hell, you senile old man," he posted on his X account.

Despite having been criticized by everyone, Pichetto continued: "When people are left without jobs and are wandering the streets, is Shein going to give them work?" he replied to Carreira, implying that Argentines must pay higher prices to defend the privileges of a few.

Finally, Milei's government social media manager replied to him again and reminded him of the problems caused by the initiatives that the deputy himself supported a few years ago: "When you implemented the 'kuka' ideas you defended for 16 years until you acted as a Macrista for 6 months, the country was filled with unemployed people, or even worse, people who work and are still poor because you pulverized wages with inflation."

"And not to mention people wandering the streets. When you go visit your boss in jail, ask her how many years she had homeless people living at her doorstep in Recoleta," Carreira concluded, referring to the Peronist legislator's past, who was once one of the staunch defenders of the corrupt former president Cristina Kirchner.

These statements come in a context of strong expansion of imported clothing consumption in Argentina, thanks to the deregulation by Milei's government and applications like Shein, which allow Argentines to access cheaper and higher-quality products than domestic ones.
