Chamber of Commerce: 'The stones thrown at Milei are Peronism's Herminio's coffin.'

The president of the CAC supported Milei's economic plan and called for patience

The president of the Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CAC), Mario Grinman, considered that the attacks suffered by Javier Milei during a public event are a matter of "institutional gravity" and compared them to the well-remembered "Herminio's coffin" incident from Peronism in 1983.

In radio statements, the leader asserted that political violence  "is not democracy, it's savagery" and called for defending institutionalism regardless of ideologies.

Grinman: "The stones thrown at Milei are a dangerous symbol"

The head of the CAC stated that the stone attacks against the President do not represent democracy and evoke dark moments in Argentine history. "I dare say yes, that this is like Herminio's coffin. It's madness. A well-thinking citizen can't allow a return to those times," he said.

Grinman emphasized that no government is perfect, but violence can never be a valid path. "Nothing is built with chaos. What must be protected is democracy," he stressed.

Support for Milei's economic direction

The businessman also defended the macroeconomic policy promoted by the Government. He highlighted that Milei's speech at the Inter-American Council of Commerce and Production (CICyP) conveyed confidence to the market by confirming that there will be no changes in the chosen direction.

"The President is convinced that this is the way. It doesn't matter the stones or the attacks, he's going to continue on this path of organizing and consolidating the macroeconomy," he stated.

Grinman acknowledged progress but warned that there is still work ahead. "The battle against inflation has not been won, fiscal balance and structural reforms still need to be consolidated. This will take at least one more year," he said.

Expectations and recent political history

The head of the CAC recalled that markets react to electoral and political results. "In 2009 with De Narváez, it went up; in 2013 with Massa as well; in 2023 with Milei it went up again; meanwhile, with the victories of Cristina Kirchner in 2011 and Alberto Fernández in 2019, markets went down. This is history, not an invention," he explained.

He also pointed out that the opposition seeks to take advantage of the political context. "They've managed to block important laws for the Government and now they want to go for everything because they smell blood; they want to return to power," he stated.
