OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Atlas, its new web browser with integrated artificial intelligence that aims to completely change the way we browse the Internet. With a potential base of 180 million users, Sam Altman's company is targeting Google Chrome's dominance.
The browser combines classic web functions with the conversational power of ChatGPT, which is present at all times to respond, analyze, or execute tasks while the user browses.

A browser with ChatGPT integrated at all times
ChatGPT Atlas doesn't work like a traditional browser. From its main screen, the user can speak directly with the assistant, ask questions about what they see, or request specific actions without switching tabs.
The interface keeps the classic design with tabs, history, and bookmarks, but with a key difference. When a page is opened, Atlas splits the screen between the main content and a sidebar with ChatGPT. From there, the assistant can provide context, explain concepts, or perform related searches without the user losing focus.
Intelligent features and memory-based customization
One of the most notable features is its persistent memory. Atlas remembers the sites visited and the user's interactions, which allows it to adapt its responses to browsing habits. For example, if you searched for vacation destinations, you only need to ask it "show me the travel pages we saw" for it to retrieve them instantly.
It also includes an agent mode, designed to automate tasks. If the user enters a recipe website, they can ask it to generate the list of ingredients or to place an order directly on Instacart. In this sense, Atlas ceases to be a browser to become an operational assistant within the web.
Privacy, control, and availability
OpenAI initially launched ChatGPT Atlas for macOS, although it plans to extend it soon to other platforms. The browser features advanced privacy functions, including an incognito mode, full control over what information the AI can read, and options to delete the history with one click.
