The start of the Formula E season left a striking image: Pepe Martí's spectacular crash two laps from the end. The Spanish driver, a rookie in the category with the Cupra Kiro team, was involved in a collision with Nico Müller (Porsche) and Antonio Félix da Costa (Jaguar) that ended with his car lifted into the air and rolling several times before landing. Fortunately, he was unharmed, although he was penalized and will have to start last in the next race.
The situation occurred during a Full Course Yellow on the urban circuit of the Sambódromo do Anhembi in São Paulo, when the race was stopped to remove Mitch Evans's car. In that context, Müller and da Costa increased their speed, but Martí couldn't brake in time and crashed into both. The impact launched his single-seater over the Jaguar, causing the rollover that stunned spectators and forced the race to be stopped with a red flag.
After the scare, the driver spoke with the specialized outlet Motorsport and made it clear that, although it was his own mistake, he doesn't attribute it to his adaptation to the category: "I've been racing in formulas for five years. It's very different, but these mistakes can't be allowed. With this magnitude and this repercussion".
