Trump's CIA director, John Ratcliffe, met this Thursday with Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, in Caracas to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries and the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
A high-ranking official detailed that the meeting focused on "confidence-building measures and laying the groundwork for continued communication and space for collaboration between the two governments."
"At President Trump's direction, Director Ratcliffe traveled to Venezuela to meet with interim president Delcy Rodríguez to convey the message that the United States hopes for a better working relationship," a U.S. official told the outlet The Daily Wire. "During the meeting in Caracas, Director Ratcliffe discussed possible opportunities for economic collaboration and that Venezuela can no longer be a safe haven for the adversaries of the United States, especially drug traffickers," the official added.

Trump demands more action against drug trafficking
In the meeting, which lasted about two hours, Ratcliffe—one of the most important men in Trump's administration—reiterated to Rodríguez the need for Venezuela to take more aggressive measures against drug trafficking. The head of U.S. intelligence also made it clear that he expected more action against the Venezuelan criminal organization Tren de Aragua.
Before the capture of dictator Maduro, the CIA attacked a Venezuelan port with a drone that, according to U.S. officials, was used to load drugs onto ships bound for the United States.
Trump, in addition to ending Maduro's dictatorship, also had Chavismo sign an oil agreement in which Venezuela would provide the United States with between 30 million and 50 million barrels of crude oil. With the money earned from oil sales, the Republican leader confirmed that Venezuela will buy U.S. machinery.
Ratcliffe's meeting with Rodríguez took place after Trump met with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado yesterday afternoon. "María gave me her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done," Trump said. "What a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, María!"
