The head of the Buenos Aires Government Jorge Macri assured that “in the City the law is enforced and order is the rule.” Crime fell by almost 30% compared to the previous year.
The City of Buenos Aires recorded a historic drop in all crimes in 2025, with unprecedented lows in critical categories such as homicides, vehicle theft and armed robbery. This was announced by the head of government, Jorge Macri, during the presentation of the Crime Map 2025
.
Overall, crime fell by almost 30% compared to the previous year. The number of thefts was the lowest in 25 years and motor theft was halved compared to 2024, even below the levels recorded during the pandemic. If the historic peak of 2002 is taken as a reference, the fall reaches 92%.
“The real difference between a city where you live in fear and one where you live in freedom isn't in a discourse: it's that the law is enforced and that order is the rule,” Macri said. And he stressed that the central change was the political decision to apply the rules firmly
. Record
lows and more arrests
Violent gun crimes fell by a third compared to 2024 and show a drastic drop compared to the records of almost a decade ago. In total, 36,512 arrests were made during 2025, 3% more than the previous year
.
Macri was accompanied by the Minister of Security, Horacio Giménez, the Secretary of the Area, Maximiliano Piñeiro, and the Chief of the City Police, Diego Casaló.
“The safety of Buenos Aires residents is our top priority. These achievements challenge us to consolidate a Comprehensive Security System that lives up to what our neighbors deserve,” said the head of government
.
Recovery of public space and the fight against mafias
The strategy included the recovery of almost 600 illegally occupied buildings, the liberation of 68 kilometers of public space taken over by illegal sales and the eviction of 18,000 manteros. In addition, operations have intensified against “rags” who extort
motorists at mass events.
“We stood up against the Mafia of Trapitos. We are not going to tolerate that any family is threatened when they go out to enjoy themselves in peace,” said Macri, who also called for tougher penalties. “Committing a crime in the City isn't free. We're going to look for you wherever you hide,” he emphasized
.
Investment in technology and police presence
The administration added 2,500 new personnel and created the Access Control Patrol. The City Police added 500 vehicles including patrol cars, motorcycles and vans
.
In parallel, the video surveillance network was expanded to more than 17,000 cameras connected to the Chacarita Urban Monitoring Center and 400 Safe Points were installed.
The Crime Map, implemented in 2017 after the enactment of Law 5,688 that created the Comprehensive Public Security System, was consolidated as a key management tool. The 2025 report is the ninth since its launch
.
“The era in which the rights of criminals outweighed those of good people is over. In this administration, the law is enforced, property is respected and life is defended. The results are in sight,” concluded Jorge Macri
