The lunatic project of transgender dolls for 4-year-old children has generated strong criticism of the Democratic government of Minnesota for its use of public funds

A crazy project from the University of Minnesota to develop dolls focused on gender identity has sparked criticism against the administration of Democratic Governor Tim Walz, as the toys could start being used this fall with children aged 4 to 10.

Various sectors have questioned the involvement of publicly funded institutions in an initiative that introduces concepts related to sexual identity and anatomy to young children.

The so-called ''MyGender Dolls'' were initially developed as part of a research project at the University of Minnesota's Medical School and later became a commercial initiative. The project involved professors and psychologists specialized in the health of transgender children and adolescents.

The dolls, whose names include ''Sam'', ''Rory'', ''Avery'', and ''Parker'', feature over a hundred interchangeable pieces including clothing, accessories, and hairstyles. They also include removable and replaceable internal and external genitals. According to their developers, the bizarre goal is for children to explore different possibilities related to their bodies and gender identity.

The initiative was presented as a ''therapeutic tool'' for professionals working with minors. The ''MyGender Dolls'' website states that the products will be available to educators, school counselors, pediatricians, and mental health service providers. However, it is unclear whether parents will be able to purchase the dolls directly or if they can prevent their children from participating in activities that use them in educational or therapeutic settings.

The project began over six years ago as research at the University of Minnesota. During that time, researchers held sessions with children considered ''transgender and gender diverse'' and their parents, where the minors interacted with the dolls and discussed issues related to gender and body. According to the report, some participants received between 20 and 60 dollars for their participation.

Criticism has particularly focused on the age of the minors targeted by the program. Dr. Quentin Van Meter, former president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, questioned why children as young as 4 years old are exposed to dolls that allow modification of elements related to sexual anatomy. In his view, children of that age may struggle to distinguish between play, fantasy, and complex concepts related to identity.

Critics also accuse Walz's government of promoting a political agenda favorable to transgender policies through public institutions. Under his administration, Minnesota has become one of the U.S. states with the most favorable policies for the rights of transgender individuals, an excessive and barbaric orientation that is sought to be applied to young children.

The relationship between the governor and the project has also raised questions. In 2023, the Eli Coleman Institute of Sexual and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota awarded Walz the ''Distinguished Sexual and Gender Health Champion'' award for his sexual and reproductive health policies and his support for gender-affirming care. Nic Rider, one of the creators of ''MyGender Dolls'', participated in the award presentation.

Another point of controversy is the public funding of the University of Minnesota. The medical school receives approximately 15 million dollars annually from the state to expand its research capacity and maintain its national relevance. Although the university claims that no public funds were used to commercialize the dolls, it refused to specify how much taxpayer money was allocated to the research and development of the project or to the salaries of the involved professors, and referred questions to a potential public records request.
