Diego Maradona Jr.'s controversial statement about Riquelme: 'I chose the right side'
The son of 'El Diez' confessed that, as a child, he was always a River fan and used a particular phrase to compare Boca's idol and Pablo Aimar
The eternal dispute between Pablo Aimar and Juan Román Riquelme marked a generation of football fans and divided passions. While one excelled at River and the other did so at Boca, it ended up swaying many kids when it came time to choose a jersey, and Diego Maradona Jr. was no exception.
In a conversation with Juan Pablo Varsky on Clank!, the son of the Ten confessed: "I was always a River fan. When I was 10 years old, matches started being broadcast in Italy. At that time, you were either for Riquelme or for Aimar. I chose the good side, Aimar. He was better. From a football perspective, I liked him more."
La comparación entre Riquelme y Aimar de Diego Maradona Jr.
It is worth remembering that Diego Maradona and Riquelme had serious differences, especially after the current Boca president resigned from the Argentina National Team citing differences in "codes" with the then head coach. Meanwhile, Diego himself always praised Aimar, to the point of recognizing him as one of his favorites.
The day he met his idol
The son of the star also shared the excitement he felt when he met the former River playmaker in person: "I met him and, let me tell you, I was always used to talking to players and coaches, but I saw Aimar and I was as excited as a child. Besides, he welcomed me into his home, he gave me one of his Benfica jerseys, a true star."

Finally, he highlighted a gesture that moved him: "My father loved Aimar, he always spoke highly of him. It moved me a lot to read an interview in which Pablo said: 'When you're little you want to be a superhero and we wanted to be Maradona.' A wonderful phrase."
