Córdoba: 21 arrested and drugs seized after attacks on police officers

It happened in Ciudad de Mis Sueños. One of those arrested is a minor accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a police officer's car

At least 21 people were arrested in a series of raids carried out in Ciudad de Mis Sueños and nearby neighborhoods. More than seven kilograms (15.4 pounds) of marijuana, firearms, cash, cars, and cell phones were seized. The police acted after a string of robberies, threats, and attacks against police stations and official vehicles.

Youth violence and systematic attacks on the police

Among the detainees is a 16-year-old adolescent, already identified for attacking police officers with a Molotov cocktail. He was arrested three times in one week, and he has a total of 27 entries to police stations, according to police sources. His case once again fell under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system, despite the seriousness of the incidents.

Police station 32 was one of the targets of these attacks, where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the car of one of the officers there a few days ago. That same incident had already led to the arrest of another youth, 15 years old, a relative of the current detainee.

This is not the first time that minors have participated in attacks on police officers with firearms, stones, or incendiary bombs. For years, officers have reported nighttime assaults with bricks, pellets, and even gunfire in Córdoba capital. The phenomenon continues to grow unchecked, fueled by a judicial system that releases minors with alarming ease.

Organized crime feeds on unpunished minors

Many of these adolescents return to crime within a few days, relapsing into a criminal cycle without real consequences. The current legislation prevents effective responses to highly dangerous incidents, even when there is concrete evidence. Meanwhile, police officers are increasingly exposed in operations that end with officers injured or ambushed.

The case of the minor with 27 entries is a reflection of a crisis that demands firm decisions and urgent reforms.
