Córdoba: arsenal, drugs, and 39 cell phones found in a single pavilion at Bouwer

An anonymous report exposed the lack of control in the prison. Authorities suspect fraud schemes and drug dealing

A shocking operation shook the early hours of Wednesday at Bouwer prison in Córdoba. After an anonymous tip-off, officers from the Directorate of Civil Brigades Coordination raided one of the wings of the prisoncomplex. The intervention revealed a level of internal disorder that is difficult to justify.

The measure was ordered by prosecutor José Mana, who operates from District 1, Shift 3. The informant, an inmate at the prison, warned about cell phones used for scams, as well as the circulation of drugs and bladed weapons. The scene the agents found exceeded initial expectations.

The procedure ended with the seizure of 39 cell phones, along with 17 SIM cards, circuit boards, batteries, chargers, cables, and headphones. All that technological arsenal was allegedly used to maintain communication with the outside and continue criminal activities. The discovery suggests that controls at Bouwer are more a formality than a real barrier.

Cell phones, weapons, and drugs: all in one cell

The agents also seized seven homemade bladed weapons, including shivs and metal spikes. This type of item is often used in internal fights or to intimidate other inmates. The violence inside the prison seems to have no pause.

Along with the electronic equipment and weapons, 200 grams (7 ounces) of marijuana and 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cocaine were found. This information reinforces the hypothesis of a drug dealing network operating inside the prison. The operation was coordinated with personnel from the Anti-Narcotics Police Force.

Everything seized was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The case includes charges for drug possession, carrying bladed weapons, and facilitating means to commit crimes from within the prison. The seriousness of the discovery puts the Penitentiary Service under scrutiny.

A structure that enables crime from within

The investigation remains open and the cell phones are already being analyzed to trace calls, contacts, and external connections. Authorities do not rule out the existence of a network with complicity both inside and outside. The prison is now under suspicion.

Commissioner Walter Casas valued the cooperation between forces and pointed out that the anonymous tip-off was key to breaking the code of silence. He also is considering initiating disciplinary or judicial measures against the inmates involved. There could be more raids soon.

The Penitentiary Service avoided making statements, but sources close to the case admit that current controls are not sufficient. The fact that such an arsenal was found in a single wing indicates a structural failure. Bouwer seems more like an operational base than a security prison.
