Chinese automaker Chery is advancing negotiations with Renault to manufacture plug-in hybrid pickups in Córdoba. The plan includes using the historic Santa Isabel plant, where Renault concentrates its national production. The information was released by Bloomberg agency.
If the agreement is finalized, Córdoba would be positioned as a key automotive innovation hub in South America. The project is part of the transition toward cleaner energy sources, which currently guide global investments. For Argentina, it would mean adding productive capital with greater added value.
Renault has already confirmed that in 2026 it will begin assembling the Niagara model in Santa Isabel. This is a half-ton pickup that will replace the Alaskan and will have a strong export profile. Chery's potential entry would strengthen that line of work.

An alliance with regional projection
The scheme under analysis foresees that Chery will provide capital and design for new models. Renault, meanwhile, would offer its infrastructure and its distribution network in Latin America. This is a cooperation formula that both companies have already used successfully in other markets.
The initiative also includes Colombia. At the Envigado plant, Chery would produce internal combustion vehicles under the Renault brand. Part of the production would carry its own logo, thus consolidating a stronger presence in the region.
