Córdoba: fierce fire at the General Cabrera bioenergy plant
The flames caused severe damage to the industrial property located in the city in the interior of the province
A large-scale fire affected the General Cabrera bioenergy plant in the Juárez Celman department, Córdoba, on Wednesday morning. The fire broke out around 7 a.m. on a public holiday, which did not prevent the rapid intervention of firefighters. Despite the intensity of the incident, no injuries were reported.
The flames caused significant material damage and complicated the extinguishing efforts due to the type of substance involved. The fire is fueled by peanut-derived material, which is highly flammable, prolonging the operation. Fire crews continue working in the area to prevent further spread.
One version indicates that the fire may have started after an explosion in a storage cell. However, the exact causes will only be known once the investigations are carried out. The work will continue for several hours, the fire department confirmed.

Firefighters from several localities are assisting with the operation
In the initial moments of the incident, crews from General Cabrera, General Deheza, and Carnerillo replied. As the hours passed, new reinforcements joined to contain the fire. Coordination among the different units made it possible to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent areas.
The chief of firefighters in General Cabrera, Guillermo Chesta, stated that "the initial efforts made it possible to control part of the fire." He also explained that "the flames caused serious damage to the facilities." He stated that a possible explosion or a short circuit could have caused the incident.
The conditions of the site and the ignited material made the rescuers' work more difficult. The fire remained active for several hours until it was extinguished. The area remained closed to the public with a strong police and firefighter presence.

The mayor confirmed that the plant will be out of service
The mayor of General Cabrera, Guillermo Cavigliaso, regretted the incident and valued the fact that there were no victims. In statements to the press, he indicated that "there was an explosion in a cell"where peanuts were stored. He also highlighted the collaboration of the various crews that arrived at the scene.
Cavigliaso confirmed that the damage was significant in the affected area. He indicated that the plant "will be out of service for some time." "It will be necessary to start over," he summarized.
The damaged plant generates energy from biomass, using peanut waste as a source. This type of facility transforms organic matter into useful energy, such as electricity or heat. The site was severely affected after the fire and remains under technical analysis.
