Córdoba: speed controls increased to reduce accidents
According to the latest road mortality report, Córdoba recorded 73 deaths in traffic accidents last year
The Municipality of Córdoba has reactivated speed measurement operations at various urban locations, with the purpose of transforming dangerous driving habits and promoting more responsible driving.
The initiative, promoted within the framework of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), seeks to raise awareness regarding the high rate of noncompliance with permitted limits
Since August 1, fines have been in effect as punishment for those who do not respect the limits.

The controls are thorough: when speeding is detected, mandatory documentation (valid driver's license and up-to-date vehicle inspection) is required, and a breathalyzer test may be administered if deemed appropriate
Road mortality in Córdoba
According to the latest road mortality report, Córdoba recorded 73 deaths in traffic accidents last year —half of them between 10 and 29 years old—; 60% of the victims were motorcyclists and 20% were pedestrians.
In addition, a study from the previous year revealed that 58% of drivers exceed the permitted speed limit.

With this increased enforcement, authorities expect to change risky behaviors, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
Devices for measuring speeding in Córdoba
The measurement devices used include portable TruCam II speed cameras, laser guns certified by INTI, capable of capturing speeds from up to one kilometer (0.62 miles) away. They were donated by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), thanks to the current agreement with BIGRS.
Fines on the roads of Córdoba province
The amounts of fines issued by Córdoba's Highway Police have increased again. The recent rise in the price of regular gasoline in the province prompted the increases, according to reports.
Traffic Law 8.560 establishes the use of Fixed Units (UF), which are equivalent to the lowest retail price of one liter (0.26 gallons) of regular gasoline.
