The Legislature of Córdoba will consider next week a bill seeking to permanently ban the activity of window washers throughout the province. The initiative aims to put an end to practices that affect road safety and tranquility in the main urban centers. The discussion will take place on Tuesday, August 12 in the Security Committee, along with other complementary measures.

If the proposal doesn't succeed, a situation that exposes drivers and pedestrians to conflicts and risks in public spaces will continue unchecked. The bill also proposes the regulation of the activity of car minders known as "naranjitas" in Córdoba city. Both practices have been identified as recurring sources of tension and violent incidents.

The initiative also includes measures for social reintegration and addressing addiction problems among the affected groups. It also seeks for the State to take an active role in providing job alternatives and support programs. The ultimate goal is to eradicate the presence of these activities that currently operate without regulation or effective control.

The legislative process aims to prevent crime

If not approved, illegal practices will continue to develop without restrictions, fostering scenarios of extortion and abuse against citizens. Experience in other jurisdictions has shown that their eradication reduces violence rates in conflict zones. Daily tensions among neighbors, pedestrians, and drivers are also alleviated.

The legislative debate becomes urgent in light of the growth of these activities in key areas of the capital and towns in the interior. The absence of clear rules encourages confrontation and deteriorates the population's perception of safety. A precise law would allow authorities to act decisively and prevent more serious incidents.

If the regulation is not approved, society will continue to be held hostage by illegal, extortionate, dangerous, and abusive practices that multiply without control. Legislators who refuse to support the proposal will be marked as directly responsible for the conflicts that will certainly be repeated in the future. Their inaction and permissiveness will not only endorse these behaviors, but will legitimize the continuation of a scenario of violence and lack of citizen protection.
