A 12-year-old minor was detained after attempting to rob a delivery worker in the city of Córdoba during the early hours of Saturday. The incident took place in block 98 of the Marqués Anexo neighborhood and was detected by the 911 video surveillance system. A patrol replied quickly to prevent the crime from being carried out.
The 911 operator detected the moment when the youth approached the delivery worker with clearly criminal intent. The alert was immediately replied to by personnel from the Córdoba Police. The minor was subdued in the street, showing the effectiveness of the police response.
However, while the officers were performing their duty, local residents began throwing blunt objects. Faced with the aggression, the officers were forced to use less-lethal weapons to preserve their safety. An officer was injured in the cowardly attack.
Serious obstacles to public order and police work
According to official sources, the violent actions of the residents had the sole objective of preventing the force from detaining the offender. This type of episode demonstrates a concerning loss of respect for authority. Security forces once again became the target of an unjustified attack.
The minor was taken to the police station and placed at the disposal of the justice system. Due to his age, he can't be held criminally responsible, but he was placed under the supervision of specialized agencies.
This case reopens the debate on the need to review the age of criminal responsibility in Argentina. The recurrence of crimes committed by minors, especially in vulnerable areas, demands clear responses. Attacks on police officers are also increasing in neighborhoods with high levels of violence.
Zero respect for police authority
