Córdoba's contribution to the 2024/25 agricultural campaign

The Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) in the province is estimated at US$11.085 billion, which represents 30% of the national total

According to a report by the  Córdoba Grain Exchange, the Gross Production Value (GPV) of Córdoba's agriculture for the 2024-25 agricultural season is estimated at USD 11.085 billion, which represents 30% of the national total.

Following the reduction of export duties announced by the National Government, the amount to be paid in export duties by Córdoba's producers would decrease by approximately USD 190 million, and would stand at USD 1.5 billion, reflecting tax relief for the sector.

Córdoba's 2024-25 agricultural season

The 2024/25 season shows better results for Córdoba after two cycles marked by challenging weather conditions and changes in the economic context.  The province reaffirms its role as one of the country's main generators of food and foreign currency, with a sown area of around 9.5 million hectares in the main grains: wheat, corn, soybean, sorghum, peanut, and sunflower.

For this season, it is estimated that Córdoba would account for 28% of the total volume produced nationwide in the main extensive crops. This share translates into a total production exceeding 35 million tons.

In soybean and corn, it would account for 31% of the production obtained from each, with 15.1 and 15.9 million tons respectively. In wheat, 2.2 million tons were reached, representing 12% of the national total; in sunflower, 1.9 million tons with 11% nationally; in sorghum, it represents 42% of national production with 460 thousand tons; and in peanut, 70% with 788 thousand tons.

"Given the volume to be achieved in the 2024/25 season in the province of Córdoba, it is possible to estimate the gross production value (GPV) for soybean, corn, wheat, peanut, sorghum, and sunflower crops combined," states the Córdoba Grain Exchange.

"This indicator is obtained by multiplying production by export prices (FOB), and represents the total income caused by the actors in the chain, including export duties," it adds.

The GPV can be interpreted as a measure of the aggregate billing of the volume produced, regardless of its sales destination (domestic or foreign market), and constitutes a useful tool for assessing the economic impact of agriculture on the local economy.

In this context, the GPV for the 24/25 season would reach USD 11.085 billion, representing 30% of the national total. Although this value remains at similar levels to the previous season, it is below the highs recorded during the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons as a result of a scenario of lower international prices.

Soybean, the complex that contributes the most in Córdoba

In the province, the largest contribution would come from soybean and corn, with USD 5.463 billion and USD 3.56 billion respectively. Peanut would participate to a lesser extent with USD 885 million, wheat with USD 823 million, sunflower with USD 236 million, and sorghum with USD 118 million.
