The governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo publicly supported the labor reform being debated in the National Senate and confirmed President Javier Milei's visit to the province. The statements were made in the context of the signing of agreements between the provincial Government and the Federal Investment Council (CFI).
During the event, Cornejo referred both to the presidential agenda and to the economic impact of the labor changes promoted by the national Government.
Milei will visit Mendoza on February 18
The provincial leader confirmed that Javier Milei will arrive in Mendoza next February 18, as part of the so-called Gratitude Tour. This series of tours has already taken the President to different cities in the country, such as Jesús María and Mar del Plata.
According to what Cornejo explained, the visit is framed as a gesture of gratitude for the strong electoral support received in October. Mendoza was one of the provinces where Milei obtained his best results, with a wide margin over his competitors.

"The President wants to make direct contact with the people, in the same way that he has done in other provinces. We're still defining the details, but the idea is to carry out a tour and a caravan", the governor stated.
According to what has emerged, the presidential agenda will be focused on the department of Maipú, one of the six municipalities that on February 22 will renew half of its Deliberative Council.
Strong support for the labor reform
Regarding the labor reform, Cornejo was clear in expressing his support for the initiative, even while acknowledging that it may generate an initial impact on provincial revenue.
The governor emphasized that he keeps a favorable position toward the modernization of the labor market and recalled that he participated actively in the May Council, where several of these proposals were debated.
"I have a clearly favorable position toward labor modernization. Many of these initiatives were developed by our team. Any tax cut impacts the coffers at the beginning, but we have to see where that money ends up", he stated.
Fewer taxes and more economic dynamism
Cornejo maintained that the resources the State stops collecting remain in the private sector, which he considers a positive factor for economic activity, investment, and job creation.
In that regard, he raised the need to move toward a comprehensive tax reform, which would structurally review the Argentine tax system.
"Lowering the tax burden is a political decision. I don't know if the Income Tax is the best tax to reduce. There are other very distortive national taxes that haven't been touched yet"
, he explained.
Structural reform and political support
For the governor of Mendoza, the labor reform must be part of a broader process of economic transformation, which includes tax changes and clear rules for the productive sector.
With his explicit support for the policies promoted by the national Government and the confirmation of the presidential visit, Mendoza is positioning itself as one of the key provinces in the political and economic agenda of the libertarian administration.
